The U.S. Postal Service was taking a lot of heat for its plan to sell the Old Chelsea Station at 217 West 18th Street, a 1937 post office on the National Register of Historic Places, and now it has backed off. It's unclear what's next for the 41,600-square-foot, two-story Colonial Revival building, but part of it may be closed and rented out to generate revenue for the cash-strapped USPS. [DNAinfo]
