It took no time at all for Curbed commenters to identify this week's historic photo as 57th Street at Sixth Avenue. The elevated rail line was built in the 1870s, and the photo shows the road in 1924. By 1938, it was closed, and the following year it was demolished, replaced by the underground IND Sixth Avenue line.
