Cornerspotted: The Porte-Cochere 440 Riverside Drive

New, 1 comment

A handful of commenters thought this marble porte-cochere was part of the Ansonia, but MidC Frank got it right with the very first guess. The grand entrance adorns the Paterno at 440 Riverside Drive near Columbia University. The 13-story apartment building was designed by architects Schwartz & Gross and developed by the Paterno brothers in 1909. The porte-cochere faces Riverside Drive, while the building curves around 116th toward Claremont Avenue.
