Midtown Equities is moving forward with converting the historic Empire Stores into a retail and office complex, and brokers familiar with the plans say the developer will be asking record-breaking rents for prime space. The rooftop office is being marketed at $90 per square foot, which would set a record for Brooklyn. Furniture retailer West Elm already set a record by agreeing to pay in the high $40s or low $50s per square foot for 10,000-square-feet. [TRD; previously]
