There's been a lot of chatter about the penthouse at 250 West Street. A preview party was hosted back in April, Leonardo DiCaprio was rumored to have checked it out, and then the unit disappeared from the market in June, only fueling the rumors that it had been picked up by a celeb. But it's now back, with new listing photos and a slightly reduced asking price, $39.5 million, down from the original $42 million. The place, at 5,718-square-feet, is huge, with a giant wraparound terrace (fully irrigated, naturally) to match, and it has a slew of high-tech, ultra-fancy features. There's a six-person Jacuzzi, a "double-sided ethanol burning fireplace" in the living room, a motorized projection screen in the library, an infra-red sauna, and a steam shower with a built-in TV in the master bath.
When we visited the penthouse, reps told us they were marketing the place to high profile people like celebrities in large part because of the unit's private entrance, which is separate from the door used by the rest of the residents. The entrance has a private elevator and one-car garage. But if the future famous tenant wants to go for a swim, he's going to have to slum it in the building's shared indoor pool.
