An East Village resident is holding a rally today to protest neighborhood veteran Jerry Delakas's unceremonious ousting from his Astor Place newsstand, which he operated from 1987 till the city padlocked him out on Tuesday. It would take $37,000, paid within a week, to resume ownership of his small business. Says protest organizer Kelly King: "He is not a fancy type to have the deep legal education to fight corruption offhe is a newsstand man. He is a villager. He is one of our own." [EVG; previously]
