In today's super depressing NYCHA news, an internal audit has revealed that not only does NYCHA have no money, it has no way to collect rent on hundreds, if not thousands, of its apartments because the agency is too broke to make repairs. Not only that, but 319 of the Housing Authority's vacant apartments have been vacant for an average of seven years, with some sitting empty for as long as two decades. Hurricane Sandy compounded the problem, and a year later 110 of the apartments that had to be vacated are still waiting to be fixed up. [NYT; previously]
