City Council Member Steve Levin must decide by Thursday whether to vote for or against allowing two new towers at 77 Commercial Street on the Greenpoint waterfront to rise to 30 and 40 stories, instead of 15 stories each. Levin's vote will likely determine which way the rest of the Council leans, as he represents the area. On the one hand, the larger towers would provide more affordable housing, but on the other hand, many Greepointers feel that this is the moment to take a stand against rampant development.
