The planned overhaul of the New York Public Library's iconic main branch on 42nd Street has gotten a green light after reviews at both the city and state levels. Some minor issues: Norman Foster and co. haven't yet announced the promised alternative design plan that would include the beloved stacks (previously banished to New Jersey), emphasize reading rooms, and forego the previously vaunted glass atrium. Then there are two pesky lawsuits, and mayor-elect Bill de Blasio's request for a financial assessment of the project. So, miles to go. [Metropolis; previously]
