Lying in wait for over a decade, another chunk of the South Village Historic District is finally official. Passionate preservationists scored a victory today when Landmarks voted to protect a 240-building, 13-block swath of Greenwich Village, located south of Washington Square Park (click map for big). The LPC did remove 10 houses on Houston Street from the area before they designated it. The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation is holding a party to celebrate tonight at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker) from 6 to 7 p.m. [GVSHP; previously]
