"The previous design - by the same architect - had a subtle, but more noticeable and IMO more appealing "industrial" quality to it. More pronounced metal structural framing, the "remnants" of the bridges and conveyors to the surrounding buildings projected further, and were open frame structures. It didn't have storefronts on all sides, either.
