Coney Update-O-Rama

Christmas came early for outgoing Borough President Marty Markowitz. Last night, the City Council approved plans for the re-development of Child's Restaurant into the "Seaside Park and Community Art Center." The developer, iStar Financial, plans to use a $53 million mix of private and public funds to restore the landmarked facade of the Coney Island gem and convert the interior space into an entertainment complex with a 5,000 seat amphitheater and an eatery. According to the developer, the conversion will provide "multiple cultural and educational benefits as well economic and residential advantages." Benefits and advantages here we come!
