Curbed Cup Round 1 Results! 2013 Is the Year Of the Upset

New, 22 comments

The 2013 Curbed Cup tournament takes a break today so we can review the results of the week—and what a wild one it was. The highest seed to advance to the Elite Eight was No. 4 NoMad, which handily beat 125th Street. The year's clear No. 1 seed, 57th Street, lost to Governors Island, likely because the Trust for Governors Island repeatedly tweeted about the poll asking fans to vote. Other big upsets were Midtown West falling to Jackson Heights, Queens, and the BAM Cultural District losing by a healthy margin to St. George in Staten Island. Not unlike last year, neighborhoods on the verge of major changes won out over neighborhoods that have a lot going on. What do you make of the round one results?
