Neighbor Beefs

New, 17 comments

A for-profit company wants to open a high-end drug rehabilitation center on an industrial block of Beard Street in Red Hook, and the neighbors are not having it. The new 25 to 30-bed facility would be 20,000-square-feet and cost patients tens of thousands of dollars, but the neighbors are most concerned about the effect alcoholics and drug addicts could have on the area, which was once plagued by drug problems. "It does not support the community," said one resident. Another said Red Hook is "the wrong place for this because the neighborhood has become so much more of a family community." [NYND]
