BROOKLYN HEIGHTS—As hotel developers giveth to Gene Kaufman, so do they taketh away. Kaufman, who will be designing a new Holiday Inn in Downtown Brooklyn, was also just fired (correction: Kaufman left the project a while ago) from the Chetrit Group's and David Bistricer's Bossert Hotel project. Kaufman's plans failed to make it past the Landmarks Commission in November. He will be replaced by Jeffrey Holmes of Australian architecture firm Woods Bagot. GREENPOINT—Council Member Steve Levin has been taking some heat from Greenpoint locals over his support of a recent rezoning for the Greenpoint Landing megaproject, and today he took to Greenpointers to defend his actions. At length. The cliff notes are that the real rezoning was passed in 2005 and there was nothing he could do to stop the towers from being built, so he wanted to get as much as he could for the community in the process, but the whole thing is worth reading.
