Community Board 3 has spoken. On December 17, the Chinatown/Lower East Side/East Village voice of the people requested that East 9th Street's P.S. 64 be returned to the community after over a decade of stalled development. Acquired in 1998 by developer Gregg Singer who plans to turn the French Renaissance Revival building into a dorm shared between Cooper Union and The Joffrey Ballet, CB3's resolution points to his proposal's disregard for the school's 2006 landmarked status amongst other grievances. With both schools signed on already, it remains to be seen how seriously the community board's recommendation will be taken. [EV Grieve; official resolution; previously]
