David Cone Checks Out 8th-Floor Apartment in The Charles

New, 6 comments

Long-stalled condominium development The Charles launched sales a couple months ago, and already the Ismael Leyva-designed building seems to have some strange draw for athletes. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the interiors were designed by David Collins, who does a lot of work with hotels, and—bear with us—athletes have spent so much time in hotels that they feel at home in them? Or maybe it's just because it's a shiny new building with a "technogym."

Last month, Nets coach Jason Kidd was seen perusing apartments there, and now the Post reports that former Yankees pitcher and current YES Network broadcaster David Cone was looking at the 3,137-square-foot, 4BR/4BA 8th floor. That unit isn't one of the ones on Streeteasy, but based on similar units for sale in the building, it probably costs somewhere in the $6 million range. Cone already owns another 8th-floor pad further uptown at The Lucida—he purchased #8C there for $3.8 million in 2011. That unit does not appear to be on the market. Construction of The Charles is expected to be finished in late 2014.
