An Arizona-based private school operator wants to open a 1,000-seat $23,500 per year school in Red Hook, just a few blocks from one of the city's largest public housing projects. Residents are not on board with the plan, arguing that it will be too expensive for families in the neighborhood. Others are more concerned about traffic safety. The proposed site for the five-story building is right near IKEA and the active Gowanus Bay terminal, and one resident said "the thought of having a concentration of children assembling and crossing here defies logic."
