Professional curmudgeon Steve Cuozzo, who moonlights as a New York Post reporter (or maybe it's the other way around), is deeply bothered by the sheer number of unremarkable Midtown East buildings for which preservationists are advocating landmark status. In the area around Grand Central (set for a long-overdue rezoning), Cuozzo seethes, there are over four dozen structures to save on lists put out by the Municipal Art Society, the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the Historic Districts Council. Among them? "O'Casey's, a four-story affair at 22 E. 41st St. anchored by an Irish bar. It's a nice little building, but a landmark?" [NY Post]
