Last week, the sales office of 135 East 79th Street announced that the building's penthouses would be offered as a sprawling, $50 million combination, and now we can see what that 9,000-square-foot duplex home might include. Six bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, a dining room with a fireplace, two private terraces, a master suite bigger than most apartments, and a bunch of rooms that will probably never be used, like a morning kitchen (what?), two sitting rooms, and a family room.
The palatial home is a combination of the highest penthouses, 19 East and 19 West, which means it will occupy the building's top two floors. The Brodsky Organization developed the building, and William Sofield designed it. At the sales opening last week, we were told that 17 of the 30 units were in contract, but now StreetEasy shows that 18 of the homes are spoken for. Move-ins should begin this fall.
