56 Leonard is 50% Sold; Rally for the New Amsterdam Market

New, 1 comment

TRIBECA?Reps for 56 Leonard Street now report that the very unfinished condo tower is 50 percent sold. Just last Friday, we were told that 16 units were in contract, but apparently that number was far from the truth. Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group now says that half of the 145 condos are taken, with sales totaling more than $450 million. But all these buyers have some waiting around to do?the building won't be complete for another two to three years. [CurbedWire Inbox; previously]

SEAPORT?The New Amsterdam Market has been leading the charge to save the historic Fulton Fish Market and Tin Building in the South Street Seaport since last spring, and the plan has gained the support of some big names in the last few weeks. New Amsterdam wants to rehabilitate the buildings as a permanent home for its local food market, but the buildings are threatened by Howard Hughes' plans for Pier 17. Howard Hughes' plans don't specify what will happen to the buildings, but the city already has a letter of intent allowing HHC to propose redeveloping the structures in the future. Market supporters came out in droves at the recent City Council meeting, and the New Amsterdam Market is hosting a rally at City Hall tomorrow. [CurbedWire Inbox; official]

EVERYWHERE?Vampire Weekend dropped two songs from its new album today, and a Curbed operative pointed out that the lyrics video for "Step" is right up our alley. The whole thing is just lovely black and white footage of New York City, from the Roosevelt Island Tram to Astor Place to the New York Public Library. Enjoy. [CurbedWire Inbox; YouTube]
