The Architectural Method Behind Brownsville's The Hegeman

New, 8 comments

Common Ground's affordable Brownsville development, the Hegeman, opened in September, and Cook+Fox Architects' work on the building is highlighted in this month's issue of Architectural Record. Since we've only run a photo or two of the place before, here's another look. The oxblood-colored molded brick is meant to mimic the historic rowhouses nearby, the aluminum window frames shade the apartments, and the main level is just a smidge below grade so that the architects could design a 77,000-square-foot in a space zoned for only 60,000 square feet. Sneaky!
