"Every apt I've rented for the past 10 years i've found on Craigslist. Just be open minded, meet with the landlord first, check out the apt firsthand, and bring a friend to provide some objective views. Of course, if you're looking for a $900 rental in SoHo, you're gonna get burned, so be realistic. I've run the gamut from a gorgeous 1BR in Bay Ridge ($1200) to a cozy 1BR with deck/BBQ and parking space on Staten Island ($1100) and other nice apts in Ridgewood and St. George. If you click on "no fee apts" you'll be surprised on how many nice, quiet places in good hoods pop up."?anon [A Guide to New York City's Major Rental-Finding Websites]
