A 2BR/2.5BA apartment with a wraparound terrace overlooking Central Park where Billy Joel spent several golden years from the 1980s to the 1990s has just been sold to an unidentified European financier for $11.375 million, the Daily News reports. (Elliman had the official listing, whose original ask last year was actually $12.5M.) Joel lived in the 10,000-square-foot penthouse of 128 Central Park South with then-wife Christie Brinkley, and made some additions like reinforcing the floors to withstand the weight of his piano. Three fireplaces and a private elevator are sorta like the opening acts, while the 3,000 square feet of outdoor space is the star of the show.
Another celeb owner, Ted Turner, was Joel's predecessor. His successor, though, bought the place for a mere $1.675 million in the late 90s. What a bargain by today's standards, eh?
