Three government officials representing eastern Brooklyn and Queens formally lodged a request for federal funding that would bankroll a comprehensive study of the subway lines that go to the Rockaways. Hurricane Sandy devastated the area, essentially cutting it off from the rest of the city's public transit infrastructure, and recovery is far from over. Earmarking cash for this kind of project, the politicians say, is far more useful than dedicating resources to some pie-in-the-sky Queens version of the High Line. [Second Avenue Sagas]
