The Leather Gallery of New York vacated its space at 194 Orchard Street just last month, and no new retailer will be taking its place. Instead, shock of shocks, the site will be home to a new residential building. Bowery Boogie ferreted out the info from DOB permits: an application was filed for a six-story building with 6,937 square feet of residential space (one apartment each on floors two through six) and 2,288 square feet of commercial space. The application was disapproved in late February, but the developers are back at it with a pavement plan and pending zoning application.
