Landlords Strke Back

After three tenants sued earlier this year to reclaim rent paid while their apartments were barely habitable after Superstorm Sandy, their landlords have retaliated with a motion to dismiss the class-action suit. The three tenants, who lived across the city at 17 Stuyvesant Street, 155 East 31st Street, and 145 East 16th Street, hold that the lack of heat, hot water, electricity, and operational elevators are cause for compensation?and they want to represent all NYC tenants treated in this manner. Meanwhile, the landlords, according to The Real Deal, have panned their effort as "no more than a manufactured attempt by plaintiffs' counsel to capitalize on what was an undeniably tragic natural disaster."
