Mayor Bloomberg has, it turns out, done a hefty amount of preservation over his three terms. He has added or extended 41 historic districts, and historic districts now cover 2 percent of the city and 10 percent of Manhattan. For comparison: Rudolph Giuliani created or extended 18 historic districts, Ed Koch 27 during their mayoral tenures. The Journal has an in-depth look at how Bloomberg-era preservation has gone hand-in-hand with increased development. [WSJ]
