"What most people don't realize is that the ORIGINAL Penn Station was run down and ugly by the early 1960s. The glass canopies hadn't been cleaned in years, and the Pennsylvania Railroad tried to "modernize" the interior by adding a 1950s Jet Age ticket counter that looked like the tail fins of a '59 Caddy. I'm not saying it should have been demolished; a good cleaning and renovation would have done wonders for the station, but most New Yorkers in the early '60s really didn't care about anything old that was built when their grandparents were young."?anon [Madison Square Garden to NYC: We're Not Going Anywhere]
