The artists of Sunset Park, particularly those who have studios in the converted industrial complex Industry City, have nervously watched the approaching gentrification storm. That storm is here. Industry City's developer has announced that all tenants of its 55 33rd Street building, where many artists have studios, will have to relocate starting April 30. The space will be taken by one of Industry City's industrial manufacturing tenants. The landlord has said it will hire movers to relocate 33rd Street tenants to a "comparable" space, but those who agree to a rent increase in the new spaces will be given priority. [AFC; previously]
