One set of brand-new CitiBike racks in Lower Manhattan, which has been recently installed and is awaiting the arrival of actual bicycles before a public launch in May sometime, is covered in discarded trash. The program hasn't even started yet, but when it does, we really hope some tourist from Sweden doesn't have to extract her rented bike from a pile of stinky city detritus. In other news of interest to two-wheeled aficionados, the city has added some new infrastructure meant to meet cyclists' needs; in particular, parking areas for bikes known as corrals in between bike and traffic lanes on Ninth Avenue. They are meant to serve both a divider and an alternative to sidewalk parking for the scores of Hell's Kitchen delivery workers' rides. [Gothamist and Atlantic Cities; previously]
