Landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman, along with her playwright husband, purchased 21 Beekman Place in 1919. Shipman renovated the house over the course of seven years, and it has gone through many other more controversial changes in the decades since. Just last fall, current owner Peter Novello?who purchased the house in 2008 for $10.6 million and restored it?listed the place for $48.5 million. That price didn't quite take, so the house has encountered the PriceChopper. The new ask is $43 million, a discount of $5.75 million, or 12 percent.
