Effective July 1, the city will grant Central Park $90 million over 10 years to support its upkeep, a sizable increase from the current $39.2 million-over-eight-years arrangement that's about to expire. To put things in perspective, the 843-acre park (which sees 40 million visitors annually) costs nonprofit Central Park Conservancy $46.5 million a year to manage. In exchange for the extra cash, the Conservancy will add some additional duties to its roster, like maintaining fountains and other bits of urban landscaping, including Columbus Circle.
