Primary day is less than five months away, friends. So naturally it was mayoral candidate and current public advocate Bill de Blasio's turn to outline his vision for making rents a little less damn high. His plan includes building 100,000 homes for low-income New Yorkers over the next 10 years, preserving a similar number of existing affordable homes, and making developers in rezoned areas either incorporate affordable housing into new projects or contribute to a fund that would pay for those homes in other locations. Meanwhile, Democratic nominee rival Christine Quinn is championing somewhat controversial "permanently affordable" housing in her campaign. [NYT; previously]
