"What no one ever mentions in these discussions re Penn Station is that tearing down Madison Sq. Garden will do nothing to increase the number of tracks/platforms beneath Penn Station. It would be better if they started working with what they've got?The Farley Post office(redeveloped for Amtrak passengers); perhaps eliminate some retail space to widen hallways, and rip down the Duane Reade on 8th and the banks on 7th to build "grander" new entrances for LIRR/NJ Transit. And if they ever get all that done, perhaps look for a new location for an additional commuter rail station, and perhaps build a new Garden over that.
