TF Cornerstone Plans 45-Story Residential Tower On West 57th

New, 10 comments

Looks like Bjarke Ingels' pyramid will be getting some residential company on West 57th Street. The Observer reports that TF Cornerstone filed plans to build a 45-story tower at 606 West 57th Street between Eleventh and Twelfth Avenues?the same site that was once slated for a 700-unit rental development by AvalonBay Communities. TF's plans call for 1.2 million-square-feet of space, with 1,189 apartments, 20 percent of which would be affordable. The development would also have 42,000-square-feet of commercial space and a 550-spot underground parking garage.

The properties in question are still zoned for manufacturing, so the developer would have to go through the same rezoning process as Durst and Ingels experienced with W57. The lenghty process would ultimately lead to a vote by City Council. A zoning diagram shows the new project as a Tetris-like stack of boxes, which kind of makes sense?if your neighbor is going to be a sloping magic mountain pyramid, you can't be a plain jane box of apartments.
