Just last month, NYCHA announced that it was ahead of schedule on its 423,000 maintenance request to-do list, but they still aren't moving fast enough. More than 300 tenants of the Smith Houses in the Lower East Side filed a lawsuit against the city, demanding speedy repairs or civil penalties. Problems include broken appliances, buzzers, mailboxes, toilets, doors, and windows, as well as leaks that cause rampant mold, flooding, warped floors, and holes in the walls. [NYT; previously]
