The townhouse at 250 West 10th Street, designed by renowned architect/designer Steven Gambrel, has a more recent coating of stardust: our favorite serial renter Courtney Love rented, redecorated, and almost got evicted from the house. Love won her eviction battle against the home's owner but left anyway, and the house hit the market for $11.4 million. Maybe the post-Love look (not revealed in listing pics) has been too much for prospective buyers to take, since the latest sales strategy is a price cut to $9.585 million. The place went for $7.64 million when it last sold in 2010.
The listing, which also recently switched brokers, has some new brokerbabble. Here's a tasty excerpt:
The wide 25 x 51 house is 4 stories featuring high ceilings, oversized windows hardwood flooring, central air, 6 fireplaces, 3 full baths and 2 1/2 baths, 6 or 3 full bedrooms, a south garden and double wide living room with 4 oversized windows and two wood burning fireplaces and an adjacent wet bar ideal for entertaining. The oval skylight in the stairwell brings natural light into the house while the skylight in the bathroom allows access to the roof. The large windows on each landing face the south garden of the house accessible from double glass doors in the entry hall as well as the surrounding gardens to the south. Thus creating a well of natural sun light, an oasis of peace, and a feeling of well being.
The large eat-in large kitchen features radiant heating, Custom Cabinetwork, Spanish limestone counter tops, double sink, French limestone floors an area for wine storage, a massive original limestone fireplace that can be used for cooking. There is a vented Lacanche gas range, two dishwashers and a Subzero Pro Refrigerator. Easy access to the mechanical room that contains the gas burner/hot water equipment and the central air conditioning system. Outside under the stairs the meters and electric are stored in a custom designed cabinet.
And if you buy, you can redecorate to your heart's content. Here's the floorplan:
