A velvet rope has been marking off the construction pit in front of 55 Wall Street, where the Department of Transportation hoped, horror of horrors, to install a newsstand in front of Cipriani Wall street. Now there's some relief for the opposition: the newsstand will not go up in front of Cipriani, but instead will be installed one block to the west. (For now, the velvet rope, which Cipriani higher-ups put up instead of the DOT's usual tape and orange barrels, still guards the spot.) [NYP; previously]
