The 1960s and 70s were the heyday of intimate venues for live music, where you could actually not spend an arm and a leg for a ticket and still be thisclose to the band. Alas, many of those storied New York institutions where rock and roll once evolved are no longer, and Rock Cellar Magazine checked out 10 of those sites to document what's there today. The nostalgia kicks in hardcore as you realize Greenwich Village go-go girl haven Trude Heller's is now a Lenny's, CBGB is a John Varvatos store, and Andy Warhol hangout Max's Kansas City is a panini shop. The vintage photos of some cool cats compared with, say, a 2013 Emigrant Bank, don't help either. [RCM]
