A battle over the conversion of a Gowanus warehouse at 280 Bond Street into a music venue has begun to escalate, with area opponents banding together in protest and the management of the Rock and Roll Playhouse vowing to "be good neighbors"... even though they don't plan to soundproof the building. We Are Gowanus members are worried that because owner Peter Shapiro (of Brooklyn Bowl) is a nightlife guru, they're facing a thumping-music-all-night situation along with other hassles (their petition, here). Meanwhile. Rock and Roll Playhouse is all like, but we have music classes for kids! And outdoor space for the community! And our bar will close at 1:30 or 2 a.m.! So don't fret. ['Stoner]
