Wired has a great look at the East Side Access project, the in-progress tunnel that will connect Grand Central Terminal to the Long Island Railroad. The tunnel has actually been in progress since 1969 (you are not alone, Second Avenue subway), but it's nearing completion, with a target end date of 2019. Three particularly challenging tunnel segments, including one at Grand Central and another at Northern Boulevard, need to be finished before the tunnel will see use. [Wired via Archinect]
