The One57 construction crane that collapsed in the pre-Hurricane Sandy winds is finally being removed and replaced six months later. The Journal details the process: pieces of the new crane will be hoisted into place beginning today, and the new boom will arrive by next Friday. It will be assembled on 57th Street, and three neighboring buildings will be evacuated overnight so that the boom can be raised above them to the crane. Construction has moved ahead without the crane this whole time, but the crane is necessary to install the building's "funnel-like top" and window-washing equipment. [WSJ; previously]
