Transportation Beefs

Why is it so damn difficult to get from Brooklyn to Queens, and vice versa? That's what Atlantic Cities, as well as scores of Williamsburg and Long Island City denizens, wants to know. The oft maligned G train isn't doing the job, and it's the only underground option in part because the subway system was designed for commuters to get to their jobs, which were solely concentrated in Manhattan. But in the olden days, it was so much easier?because there used to be a comprehensive trolley system connecting those two boroughs (and the entire city), which was ultimately destroyed by the 1940s. Since then, alas, buses just haven't been up to the task. A brief history of those much-missed trolleys, right this way. [AC]
