Seven months and 1,500-feet of new tracks later, the A train is finally ready to return to Rockaway. Since Hurricane Sandy washed out 3.5 miles of tracks near the Jamaica Bay, there has been no subway connection from the peninsula to the mainland, but service finally resumes today at noon. To prevent future washouts, the MTA had to install a "corrugated marine steel sheet wall" some 30-feet into the soft ground along two-miles of the tracks. [NY1 and Gothamist]
