Forget the New York Public Library's $300 million renovation of its 42nd Street flagship, says the ever-provocative author Malcolm Gladwell. He'd rather stick a pile of luxury residences on the site than spend money on a public institution that won't actually affect city dwellers who live further afield. "Luxury condos would look wonderful there," he said in a Q&A this week. "Go back into the business of reaching people who do not have access to books. And that is not on the corner of 42nd and Fifth." [HuffPo via NYO; previously]
