The National Tennis Center has reached an agreement with the city to replace the 0.68 acres of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park that it wants to take for its $500 million expansion. In fact, the Tennis Association will be giving back 1.56 acres of parkland, nearly twice what they are taking. Clearly, tennis officials saw how heated things were getting and thought, "Oh shit, we better do something fast or else we'll be hated as much as an oil billionaire from Abu Dhabi." Good call.
