Bridge Under Water

New, 3 comments

During Hurricane Sandy, the Gowanus Canal flooded so much that the bridges above the waterway were completely submerged. As such, $1 million of the FEMA recovery funds will be going to the 124-year-old Carroll Street Bridge, the city's only active wooden drawbridge. In addition to repairs to the sidewalks, joints, and decking, the landmark bridge needs to have all of its electric and hydraulic equipment replaced. [Brooklyn Paper; previously]
