Welcome back to The Six Digit Club, in which we take a look at a newish-to-market listing priced under $1 million, because nice things sometimes come in small packages. Send nominations to the tipline.
Price: $449,000
Address: 583 Henry Street
Size: 1BR/1BA, 520 sq. ft.
Maintenance: $489
First impression: It's at the ground level, which often means that there's not only a lack of light but also black-barred windows for security's sake. It's a bit small, the three biggest closets in the apartment are in the living space, and the garden area out front is too small to fit seating. But then the pictures won us over: this little one-bedroom gem has a separate glassed-in entrance on the side of an 1870-built co-op building, a quaint red door, and (win!) no bars on the windows. There is a fence a few feet from the street-facing windows, but the plants out front cancel out any potential prison feel and allow light to flood into the cozy living/dining room and bedroom. The "maisonette" description suits the separate entrance, even though the size doesn't quite match up. But the price just might be right. Best of all, it's being sold by an Elliman broker with the appropriately historic name of S. Jefferson Thomas.
