Which of These $1.5 Million Dumbo Lofts Do You Want More?

New, 3 comments

Imagine you have around $1,500,000 to spend on a place and you've narrowed it down to two apartments in the same neighborhood. How do you make up your mind? The answer is simple: you shove them into a metaphorical cage and let them battle it out until one emerges victorious. It's time for Real Estate Deathmatch.

Address: 50 Bridge Street #609/ 70 Washington Street #8B
Price: $1,500,000 $1,425,000
CC/Taxes: $892 $500
Square Footage: ~3,000 1,236
Beds, Baths: 2, 2 2, 2

? This loft in 50 Bridge Street has a massive open living room with soaring ceilings. That's the good news. But then things get a little confusing. There's an "upper walk-around open mezzanine," which is currently being used as storage (note the pile of garbage bags) and a guest bedroom (unclear how that works). It also appears, based on the floor plan, that the second bedroom is only accessible through the first bedroom.

? This two-bedroom (well, one-bedroom with an additional small, windowless room) in 70 Washington Street is more of a regular apartment, despite its repeated protestations that it's a loft. It was renovated fairly recently and the bathrooms are pictured (unlike the bathrooms in 50 Bridge Street) which is a good sign. It's also $75K cheaper with much lower monthly costs, but it's going to be tough to look past the fact that it's less than half the total area.
